Itinerary
Day 1: Geneva — Montreux — Zermatt (D)Start your day with a Geneva city tour, departing from Gare Routiere, the city’s central bus terminal. See where the European seat of the UN is headquartered, stop by City Hall and pause to admire the scenery around Lake Geneva.
Leave Geneva behind for a drive to the lakeside towns of Lausanne and Montreux, and then continue to storybook Chillon Castle for a photo stop.
Venturing through Valais, the valley of the Rhône River, transfer to a cogwheel train in Täsch and ride up to Zermatt, a German-speaking resort town at the foot of Matterhorn mountain, whose striking peak is a symbol of Switzerland.
Dinner and overnight at 4*Hotel Alex or similar
Day 2: Zermatt —Täsch — Lugano (B)
The morning is yours to spend as you please. If you’re craving more views, ride the cogwheel train up the snowy Gornergrat mountain (own expense), or simply stroll through town shopping for knickknacks and admiring the charming old farmhouses.
In the afternoon, take the train to Täsch and then board the bus for a ride over the stunning Nufenen Pass. Cross into the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and arrive in the garden city of Lugano, nestled on Lake Lugano and surrounded by the Lugano Prealps.
Overnight: 4-star Hotel De la Paix or similar in Lugano
Day 3: Lugano — Lake Como — St Moritz (B, D)
After your stay in Lugano, it’s time to hit the road for Italy. Take a scenic route across the border and drive along the enchanting villa-lined shores of Lake Como, a famous resort destination (and, incidentally, a celebrity magnet). Then, soak up the Italian charm of Menaggio and Chiavenna in the lovely Breggaglia Valley.
Re-enter Switzerland by way of Castasegna. Hairpin turns bend over Maloja Pass to crystal-blue Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana, delivering you to the renowned mountain resort town of St Moritz in the late afternoon. Pristinely set amid colossal Alpine summits, St Moritz has hosted two Winter Olympics and is home to one of the most expensive ski resorts in the world.
Explore at your leisure and enjoy dinner with your group in the evening.
Dinner and overnight at 4* Hotel Schweizerhof or similar
Day 4: St Moritz — Vaduz — Zurich (B)
Pack up and head out for a morning drive across Julier Pass to Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland which has a settlement history of over 5000 years. Continue an hour north and cross the Liechtenstein border to Vaduz, the capital city. Admire mighty Vaduz Castle, a gorgeous royal palace perched on a forested outcrop overlooking the valley.
Before you can say, “How small is this country?”, you’ll be back in Swiss territory en route to Zurich. Savor views of Switzerland’s countryside farmlands on your afternoon drive through the Toggenburg region, and arrive in central Zurich in the evening, where your tour will end.
